Vitamin C for Eyes & Brain Health
A new study published in The Journal of Neuroscience indicates that high doses of Vitamin C may help the nerve cells in the eye to function properly and may be important for brain health too!
In order for the retina to function properly, “we found that cells need to be bathed in relatively high doses of Vitamin C, inside and out “explained Henrique von Gersdorff, PhD, a senior scientist at OHSU’s Vollum Institute and co-author of the study.
“Because the retina is part of the central nervous system, this suggests there’s likely an important role for Vitamin C throughout our brains, to a degree we had not realized before”
When Vitamin C levels are present in the brain they will help support the functioning of GABA-type receptors, which modulate the rapid communication between brain cells by acting as an inhibitory ‘brake’ on excitatory neurons in the brain.
Vitamin C deficiency results in the condition called scurvy, and one of the common symptoms of which is depression. The researchers stated that their new findings may help explain this observation.
A Vitamin C rich diet could be neuroprotective for the retina and brain, for conditions such as glaucoma, epilepsy and depression, said the researchers.

Rasperry Ketones for Fat loss
Scientists at the Ehime University School of Medicine discovered that Razberi-K, a ketone found exclusively within red raspberries, can have substantial effects on weight loss. Ketones have been considered “magic” by some in the medical community because of their ability to increase metabolism and decrease the production of free radicals within the body. Research suggests that the effect of Razberi-K is greater when catecholamines are released, whether through exercise or through the use of thermogenics.
“This preliminary data supports the efficacy of Razberi-K supplementation for the management of body fat in healthy men and women, particularly when used in conjunction with exercise,” stated Tim Ziegenfuss, Ph.D., chief executive officer (CEO) of Ohio Research Group. “Further, the safety profile of Razberi-K appears to be acceptable, and no adverse events were reported for the duration of the study.” This study adds to existing clinical research in which raspberry ketone has been shown to have anti-obesity effects.

Cancer Drug Avastin, Still Available Despite FDA’s Decision
The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) has refuted the FDA’s decision to withdraw Cancer drug, Avastin from the market, after a vote of 12 to 1, then a public hearing which double confirmed the FDA’s withdraw decision.
The staggering side effects and the lack of success rate for patients using the drug concluded the FDA panel to withdraw.
NCCN is a non-profit organization of oncologists, for leading treatment centres, Medicare, and insurance companies; their recommendation is so powerful that it will actually overcome a retracted FDA approval. The NCCN advisory board has members from Drug Companies such as, Pfizer, Wyeth, Novartis, etc.
Last year’s sales of Avastin totalled nearly $7 billion and costs patients in between $50,000 - $100,000 per year.
The NCCN voted to continue its recommendation to use Avastin for cancer.
