Report: Why the Natural Health Product Regulations should be Suspended and Reviewed

By John H. Biggs BSc, NCP - Owner Optimum Health Vitamins

As frustration with the Natural Health Products Regulations grows, many Canadians are getting angry with Health Canada about their ever-shrinking selection of NHPs. Many times they can no longer get products that they have used for years, sometimes decades.

With an official safety record of ZERO Canadians deaths ever, it can easily be shown that Natural Health products are safer than either foods or drugs, both of which cause deaths every year. Yet Health Canada constantly maintains that they are doing it for our safety(??), even when less than 1% of the 18,000 product license applications they have refused have been denied because they failed to PROVE safety. (This includes a parsley product!)

Many customers and people I have talked to want to go to their MPs to complain, but they just don’t know what to say. Therefore, in conjunction with the Natural Health Products Protection Association, we present here an 8 page summary of the issues at hand, to familiarize yourself with, print off copies, and to take to your MP for review. Reading it yourself, and learning about the issues is the first step.

Please forward this as broadly as you can to people you know that are concerned, into the 308 ridings across Canada. It not only reviews the problems at hand, and what is driving them, but also goes over workable solutions.

Making your MP clearly understand the regulatory problems, and the “rock and a hard place” situation that NHPs have been thrust into by Health Canada, will be key to start the change that must occur if Canadians are to maintain their ability to care for themselves.

As long as we are resolved, we can not only halt the erosion of our health rights, but achieve confidence in the quality of our NHPs as well.

I feel strongly that this information package to take to your MP will be helpful starting that process in a meaningful way. Let’s do it!
